The goal of our conference was clear: to create a safe, shared workplace where no one gets injured. Several of our contractors shared their own experiences from the project so far, and we concluded the day with a joint workshop on how we’ll collaborate moving forward.

Our BECCS Director Egil Nybakk stressed the importance of gatherings such as this:

“We look forward to celebrating Christmas 2028 having shipped our first carbon dioxide from the plant. But for that celebration to feel truly rewarding, no one must have been injured along the way. That’s why exercises like today’s conference are so important – and why we need to bring what we agreed on today into the way we work together.”

Two of the participants were were Johan Dahlberg, Skanska’s representative in the project, and Josef Guttenkunst, Stockholm Exergi’s Project Manager for Work Package 1. They gave a joint presentation where they emphasized the complexity of the project: multiple parallel technical disciplines, a high execution pace, and a confined worksite.

“That’s why clear communication, close collaboration, flexibility, and a strong safety culture are essential,” said Johan. “Making sure that safety is top priority – from management to the shop floor – is crucial. By continuously reminding and supporting each other to work safely, we build a strong safety culture.”

Smiti Mehra, Head of Site Integration, and Erik Skoglund, Project Manager for Work Package 2, also shared their experience together with Fineweld. Over the past few months, they have successfully delivered and assembled major parts of our pipe rack, including several spectacular and challenging lifts. Fineweld’s CBO, Jani Harju, highlighted three key factors behind the achievement:

“A safe outcome was achieved through good communication, close collaboration, and by supporting professionals in applying their expertise.”

Egil Nybakk concludes:

“To everyone who participated in the conference and who works on the Beccs Stockholm project: thank you for sharing our vision of zero accidents. We care about you and everyone else working on our site, and by working together we truly believe that we will be successful.”
